My 10 Pinterest Marketing Tips to Increase Your Website Traffic

 1. Convert to a business account

If you are operating or advertising a business on Pinterest but you are still using a personal Pinterest account, you could actually be violating Pinterest’s Terms of Service and could potentially get your account suspended.  so if you are a business and you advertise as a business on Pinterest please do not keep your personal and just covert your account to a business account

A business account gives you more features than if you were to be on a personal account.

For example you get access to Pinterest built in analytics dashboard, and this dashboard gives you so more insight into your audience’s affinity interests, your board Impressions, pin impressions, your link clicks, and your saves

This is just a small sample of the type of analytics you you gain when you transfer or convert your account from personal to business, but you get access to promoted pins, Rich pins, and in other key statistics when you have a Pinterest business account.

2.  Have a clear purpose, niche and message

It's so important to know to have a clear purpose, niche and message so you can know exactly who you’re speaking to and what their points are and craft the right content to serve them.

I suggest you really niche down and know your target audience so well that it's almost like you are in their head when it comes to solving their issues. You also need to use the language that your target audience uses and be very purposeful when you create your content.

3.  Pin content that is relevant

As a former home decor bloggers who has transition to Pinterest marketing, I no longer Pin home decor content to my main Pinterest account as all my content now focuses on Pinterest marketing.

The reason I have done this is very purposeful in mind.

I don't want to confuse Pinterest by any means. I want to signal to Pinterest that the type of content I now focus on is in a particular niche and I want for Pinterest to show my content to the right people who are searching for what I have to offer.

When Pinterest is confused and unsure where to index you, it will not show your content to the right people, leaving you struggling and trying all the tactics you can find to correct your strategy.

Make sure you are pinning content that is specific to your niche, so your new content focus will be indexed to the right people & be shown in their home feed.

A quick tip: you can also repurpose your Instagram content straight from your phone over to Pinterest by clicking on your Instagram grid post, clicking the three dots in the upper right-hand corner & sharing the content over to the Pinterest app!

4.  Clean up your boards

You want to turn the boards you no longer actively pin a particular content about into secret boards. Once these boards are turned secret, it will no longer reside actively on your main account but will be hidden from your visitors viewing.

This helps that in that you don’t confuse your visitors when they come across your profile by providing them with very specific niche-related content they can use for their benefit.

TIP: You can even take this a step further and remove any pins from your active boards that you find are not quality content or that may have been pinned incorrectly.

5.  Follow people in your niche

When you start following people in your niche, you once again, signal to the Pinterest app this is my new direction and you now want Pinterest to show your content to anyone who has interest in your niche.

Not only does following people in your niche help Pinterest, but it also helps to potentially bring on new followers to you too!

When new people in your niche follow you and pin your content, your content will now show up in their main feed & be shown first to their followers.

6.  Comment on their pins

Not a lot of people do this quite often but I suggest you give this a try! If you find a piece of content that you like, comment on the pin & leave a genuine reason why you liked the post.

For example, you could say, “Hey Julia! I really liked your tips, especially the one about creating a secret board for your ideal client!”

This shows organic engagement that you read their content & you found something that really resonated with you.

7.  Be consistent!

Consistency is so hard for everyone, myself included! In order to be successful on Pinterest, you really have to feed the algorithm with fresh content and be consistent with your pinning of other people’s content.

We all have commitments in life that may not enable us to pin 15-25 pins per day. The best way to work around this is to use a Pinterest-approved scheduler called Tailwind.

Tailwind is my favorite tool I use to schedule out pins for my clients & myself. I cannot do without Tailwind as it works with Pinterest analytics to know when best to schedule out content when an audience is most like on the platform so they are able to get the most of my content, at the right times.

8.  Make sure you’re using your keywords!

Make sure to include keywords in your pin titles, your pin descriptions, your board titles, board descriptions, and profile name & description!

You need to do thorough research for your niche to know what specific keywords your target audience is looking for as keywords is what helps content to rank higher in search, not hashtags.

9.  Arrange your boards according to engagement

Few people do this as well, but I suggest you arrange your boards according to engagement.

But, you may be asking yourself, how do you find out about what boards are most engaged?

Simple! You use Tailwind once again.

There’s a special feature in Tailwind you can access to find out what boards generate the most pins and saves. Once you find this information out, arrange your boards according to the data you get from Tailwind.

When a visitor comes across your Pinterest profile and see your most active boards in the first two rows, the chances of them re-pinning content from your boards are higher than if you have your boards organized by what you may think is relevant for them.

10.  Create amazing pin graphics!

Pinterest graphics really do matter!

Pin designs are what stop the scroll and it takes a bit of practice to know & understand what makes a great Pinterest graphic. If you’re wanting to know more about how to design pinnable images that engage, check out the video I created here on how I create Pinterest graphics.

You do have to play around with Pin designs to find out what works best for your audience. Once you find your unique Pin graphic style, it will make everything much easier and help to build a consistent look & feel to your brand. Not only will it help with consistency but your audience will immediately recognize your content and not hesitate to save or click through to your website to read more!

In conclusion…

This list that I have compiled is in no specific order of importance, but I encourage you to use these tips to grab the attention of your audience, generate those leads & turn them into sales!
